Korean Garden
Korean Garden
A space that harmonizes with nature and reflects traditional aesthetics and philosophy. Below are the key features of a Korean garden:
Nature-Friendly Design
The approach is to embrace nature as it is, creating harmony rather than transforming it artificially. The emphasis is on natural irregularity rather than artificial symmetry.
Principle of Baesanimsu (背山臨水)
This principle involves positioning the garden with the mountain at the back and water in front, reflecting the concept of geomancy (Feng Shui) in garden design.
Use of Ponds and Water Elements
Ponds with natural, curved shapes (known as Bangjiwon-do) are created, and water elements such as small waterfalls and streams are incorporated to bring life and movement to the garden.
Simple and Elegant Landscaping
Instead of extravagant decoration, the beauty of simplicity and modesty is emphasized. Traditional structures such as stone walls, tiled roofs, and thatched roofs blend harmoniously with the surroundings.
This garden embodies the essence of traditional Korean landscape design, where nature and design seamlessly coexist, offering a tranquil and reflective environment.
